Undergraduate researcher Cynthia Gong mapped banks and alternative financial services across Los Angeles County using FDIC data, census-tract demographics, and HOLC redlining grades. Her project shows how race, income, and the legacy of redlining continue to shape access to financial services across the city. Winner of the 2023 Dean’s Prize for Undergraduate Research and first prize in the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences category of the UCLA Library Prize for Undergraduate Research.
